Despite a wealth of evidence, the US and NATO have abstained from formally investigating Iran’s supporting role in the Afghan insurgency. The UN Security Council has also remained silent even as a huge shipment of weapons has been ferried to Afghanistan by Iran in preparation for the planned US military offensive in Kandahar. The US should address Iran’s funding of militants in order to prevent a strengthening of the insurgency in the region.
